Our Lenten theme is "The Hand of the Lord" from Concordia Publishing House
Whether tightening a bolt, crocheting, or typing on a computer, there is so much that we do with our hands. Our Creator has bestowed on us these amazing instruments, yet all things are the work of the hand of the Lord. Throughout our Lenten mid-week services we will explore the ways in which the hand of the Lord is both Law and Gospel, and how His hand has come to us in Jesus.

We’ll be reminded that the hand of Jesus has accomplished all that we need. Amazingly, He takes our manipulative, distorted, self-serving hands and restores them into useful hands for His purposes, both to literally use them in service and to make our whole lives into His instruments of witness, service, and praise.

At “Epic Australian Adventure” Vacation Bible School, kids will learn how Jesus calls, leads, teaches, saves, and sends us to share the Good News with others through five exciting Old & New Testament stories that trace God’s epic plan of salvation. Jesus is our Savior and faithful guide, who shows us the right way to go and guides us on the path of truth that leads to eternal life.

Program Details

VBS kids will be organized into either early childhood or elementary crews. Each crew will have 6-10 children per crew and two crew leaders.
We'll enjoy Bible stories, crafts, games, snacks and lively music as we celebrate God’s gifts.

Bible Study Hour with Seminarian Sergiu Trifa - Sun. March 9th

During the Bible study hour on Sunday March 9, 2025, Seminarian Sergiu Trifa will share the story of his work in 2022 leading thousands of Ukrainian refugees from their war torn communities to safety in Romania, his homeland. He will also talk about his experiences as a second year student at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne. Sergiu is the son of Rev. Sorin-Horia Trifa, a Romanian pastor who works with the LCMS.

In recent months, Zion has designated special offerings and other financial support to assist this young man in his journey toward becoming a pastor, as part of our broader efforts to support the development of more full-time church workers for our Lutheran congregations!

We Mourn the Loss of Dennis Finney

Dennis L. Finney, 62, of Houston, died Friday, February 21, 2025.
He was born August 6, 1962, in Anchorage, Alaska, a son of Sidney and Esther Johnson Finney. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a Millright. Dennis was a faithful member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Bridgeville. He enjoyed landscaping and spending time with his family. Surviving are his mother, Esther Johnson Finney; his sons, Joshua (Kandie) Finney, Jacob Finney; daughter, Cheyanne Finney; his wife, Melanie Finney; sisters, Denise (Robert) DeBoe, Annette (Bob) Anderson, and sister, Jenny (Dennis Gibbons) Carpenter; his granddaughter, Kailynn, and several nieces and nephews. Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Sidney L. Finney. Friends will be received Friday February 28th from 3-6 p.m., a service will take place at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Grimenstein of Zion Lutheran Church officiating at Sollon Funeral and Cremation Services, LTD, 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, Phillip L. Sollon, supervisor, 724-746-1000.
